Periodontal Therapy

Periodontal Therapy is the foundation of a healthy mouth and body. Our office is equipped with an experienced periodontal therapist and all of the latest instruments to treat and prevent gum disease.

We are proud to offer our patients the greatest advancement in Periodontal treatment available today with our Deka Ultraspeed CO2 laser! There are many different lasers used in dentistry but not all lasers give the same results.
Periodontal disease is very common, affecting three out of four adults over the age of 35. It is an incurable disease that causes chronic inflammation of the gums which may increase your risk for a variety of health concerns including: Weakened Immune System, Diabetes, Stroke, Lung Disease, Heart Disease, Pre term Low Birth Babies, Respiratory Disease and the list continues.
In order to best treat our patients we have one of the only Deka Ultraspeed CO2 laser available in the panhandle of Florida! Other lasers such as Erbium, Argon, 810 nm Diode and high density CO2 lasers are NOT recommended for periodontal treatment because they may produce too much energy causing charring of the bone. They may not coagulate the tissue, may not have sterilizing properties and may transmit too much heat and damage the root surface.
The Deka Ultraspeed CO2 laser is the most effective laser available to treat periodontal disease for many reasons. There are no contra-indications in any treatment and there are no limitations with pre-existing conditions such as pregnancy, diabetes, transplants, pacemakers, blood thinners, just to name a few. This laser is used on soft tissue to sterilize the tissue. The thermal energy only penetrates 0.1mm, sterilizing only the root surface without any risk of damage to the nerve of the tooth. Transmitted energy kills all bacteria in the pocket allowing the natural healthy bacteria to return to normal levels. Deka Ultraspeed CO2 laser treatments in the best way to prevent patients from having to undergo periodontal surgery with a knife!
The procedure is typically not uncomfortable and many patients don't require anesthesia. Post-operative discomfort is minimal or nonexistent with most patients producing much better healing and long term results. A patient receiving periodontal treatment will have about four visits, 7-10 days apart to sterilize the affected areas and a follow up is done 6 weeks after treatment to check the success of healing.
At Emerald Coast Dental Spa we use the Deka Ultraspeed CO2 laser for many different procedures such as oral surgery, endodontics, smile contouring for esthetic and cosmetic applications, implantology, conservative restorative procedures and periodontics. We have treated children as young as 3 years old that had excellent results with no bleeding, faster healing, no sutures, no post-operative pain, no complications and no medication necessary.
